Haley ahead of Democrat Sheheen, more than 2010

The Winthrop University poll (below) has the SC governor's race the closest at 44-34 Gov. Nikki Haley (R) over Democrat Vincent Sheheen. 

That is the poll most often used by statewide media. Other polls have even wider gaps. With the failure of the American people, on about all fronts, by Democrat President Barack Obama, Democrats are set up to take a big hit from angry voters. Sheheen looks like he will be a casualty of poor government by his party.

Also: It may be too soon to tell how the move by un-elected judges to allow redefining marriage has affected Democrats. Republicans have chosen to fight the dictate sent down from the courts, in opposition to the will of the voters. But could gay marriage damage Democrats even more?

State newspaper's headlines more like a SC Democrat Party Blog

It's a little more than three weeks from the gubernatorial election, and The State newspaper is stepping up its attack against Republican Gov. Nikki Haley.
Her opponent, Democrat Vincent Sheheen, has not found any issue with which to negative her down. And with the total disaster of a Democrat president manifesting around the country, Sheheen does not dare run on his party's record.  That would be political suicide for his already life-support-level campaign.

Just look at the The State's headlines. This is a "mainstream" (supposedly objective) newspaper, not the SC Democrat Party's newsletter to the rabid faithful.

Wow. If Sheheen cannot win with hundreds of thousands of dollars of daily in-kind campaign contributions from the media, that do not have to be reported, will a Democrat EVER win statewide in SC?

Fan sites censor talk of replacing Gamecock Defensive Coach Lorenzo Ward?

Some Gamecock fan sites like “CocyTalk” and “Gamecock Central” have removed chat threads asking the question: “Who should SC get to replace Lorenzo Ward?”

Because the fan sites are tightly monitored and controlled, any talk of replacing a current coach was immediately censored. 

Evidently, those fan sites have to follow certain rules from USC to be given access. And honestly discussing the defensive problems, and solutions, is forbidden.

Will Muschamp - Florida head coach - is already being speculated upon by FITS, the Columbia-based political gossip blog, as a replacement for Ward. Florida would have to fire Muschamp, first.

Logic would dictate that whoever replaces Ward will get to bring his whole staff to South Carolina.

There is not really a bright spot on the Gamecock defense, despite claims in the pre-season that Carolina was stacked on talent. The D-line, linebackers and secondary have looked excruciatingly helpless as the Gamecocks have blown double-digit leads to lose two games to obviously inferior (talent-wise) teams.

The Gamecocks have likely been propped up by talent evaluated and brought in before Ward became DC.

In the off-week it was reported that Ward will move from the sideline up to the booth. But with as many years of coaching as Ward has under his belt, is this going to make much difference? If it was his best perspective, he likely would have figured that out before now.

A fan on Gamecock Central said: “Watching our defense this year reminds me so much of Wally Burnham's defenses during Brad Scott's tenure. Our Defensive end play is the worst I have seen in a long time. Our D lineman look out of shape, get pushed around and rarely shed their blocks quick enough to effect the play. The DB's rarely play the ball and often are out of position. We have lost to two awful qQBs. Our LB's, although extremely talented and the strength of the defense, are being forced to cover for our DB's and lineman. They still look poorly coached often taking terrible pursuit angles.” (edited for spelling.)

Pundits claimed SC defense could be better without Clowney!

In the spring, SaturdayDownSouth (SDS) reported “Relative unknowns Darius English, an under-recruited redshirt sophomore, and Abu Lamin, South Carolina’s crown JUCO jewel, are poised to produce following impressive performances during spring practice.”

Lamin was “the 16th-best JUCO player in the country last season,” according to SDS.

SDS also said: “It’s unrealistic for defensive line coach Deke Adams to expect a double-digit sack total from either player, but the potential’s there. English fills the gaping hole off the edge left by the Houston Texans’ No. 1 overall pick while Lamin will likely play inside on third down.”

But the D-line may be the most disastrous portion of the USC defense in 2014.

Do not expect Defensive Line Coach Deke Adams, hired from the ACC, to be back.

Also from SDS: “ the Gamecocks’ defensive front could be stronger without Clowney’s services. It sounded ridiculous at the time, but there’s some truth to it.”

SDS said: “The progression of Gerald Dixon along with English and Lamin’s expected impact gives the Gamecocks a more well-rounded group with less of a focus on one individual player in Ward’s 4-3 scheme that will feature more 3-4 looks.”

There was not even a hint of the implosion that has happened with the D.

Today, Palmetto Policy Forum joined the Liberty Foundation of America to release the following look at unemployment numbers and labor participation across gender and race in South Carolina:

Last Friday, headlines heralded the news that America’s official unemployment rate had fallen below 6% for the first time since 2008. Surely, a sign that we’re on the path to recovery, right? A closer look says “not so fast.” After 5 years of unfettered progressive policy in Washington, the reality of the Left’s lofty rhetoric of greater fairness and compassion has been much closer to an all-out mugging of the very people they claim to be “helping.” In fact, a recent poll by the Pew Research Center found that a full 45% of Americans believe the unemployment rate is actually 9% or higher, a sure sign that perception trumps headlines. But a quick look at the real statistics after 5 years of President Obama’s progressive crusade against the rich shows America’s perceptions may be far closer to reflecting reality than the unemployment rate itself:

 • According to UC Berkeley economist Emmanual Saez, 95% of the Obama “recovery” gains (in terms of real income growth) have accrued to much maligned “top 1%”.

• 1 in 6 Americans currently rely on food stamps (SNAP), an almost 50% increase since President Obama took office in January 2009.

• According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the percentage of Americans who are working is the lowest it has been since the days of Jimmy Carter. As New York Times writer Binyamin Appelbaum aptly said, “We are basically ‘recovering from the recession’ by reducing the share of Americans who participate in the labor force. Hurrah!”

And South Carolina – despite strong overall population gains over the last decade – has been no exception to that trend. The following Palmetto Policy Forum report, produced in collaboration with the Liberty Foundation, starkly illustrates the disturbing truth. From 2008 to the most complete numbers we have in 2013, South Carolina’s labor participation has seen a uniform, steady decline across gender and race, aside from a 2012-2013 rebound among Hispanic workers.

Jennifer Wilson, USC prof., murder case reveals ailments in pop culture

This week, in Columbia, the trial of Hank Hawes began.

Hawes allegedly murdered USC Professor Jennifer Wilson in August 2011. He is accused of stabbing her multiple times. 

Wilson was a young and attractive college professor who had just been awarded tenure.

She met the reported conman Hawes on an Internet dating website. Why would a woman with so much going for her, end up on an online dating site?

After getting deeply involved with Hawes, Wilson supposedly found out that Hawes misrepresented himself as wealthy and sophisticated. And other women let Wilson know Hawes was lying and dangerous. But she, for some reason, could not shake him.

How did such a smart and pretty woman get tangled up with such a slimy character like Hawes?

But if you suggest people get to know each other, among friends or at a church social these days, you're laughed at. 

Not saying it is the case here, but “hooking up” with people who hardly know each other is more the norm these days, and championed by the experts in society as healthy and empowering for women. Yet it can have disastrous and deadly consequences.

The media never seems to focus on the reckless sexual behavior in the culture that endangers women, and in some cases men. 

As the Hawes trail unfolded this week, some other bizarre, or at least examples of some of the rot in our culture surfaced.

According to a text to Hawes from Wilson, she may have been willing to have sex with the fiendish Hawes, but she feared he would videotape her compromising herself.

“No, you might video, that worries me. Wilson said, ‘I don’t want sex tapes out on me.’”

Hawes had threatened to ruin her life and expose something embarrassing, according to The State newspaper.

What kind of perverted man are we dealing with here? And why would any woman be compelled to interact with such scum.

Hawes also, according to information from the trial, cyber stalked Wilson.

“I know you’re on Skype,” a video chat program, Hawes wrote in a text to Wilson. The next day, he texts: “You just came up on Skype again.”

And as so many on trial have become accustomed to claiming: Hawes blames his disgusting behavior on a pop culture condition. Hawes claims to have ADHD. It's a fairly recent invention that is used a lot to explain abhorrent behavior. 

Hawes tells Wilson, not long before he allegedly killed her, he just got a new prescription to treat ADHD. He says the medication gave him his “life back.” He later says: “I found my easy button.”

Wilson talks about liking the “the nice Hank.” But is that the drug-induced Hank she is depending on?

While the media and “authorities” tell us we're old-fashioned to be a bit appalled by the lack of discretion used to form relationships, the Hawes-Wilson union seems to be sick, by any standard. 

But sadly this kind of corruption of mind is more and more common in “modern” society.

Unfortunately too many of these “alliances” are ending up tragically. And no one is even guessing the answer may have some basis in prudence and morality. 

Gay marriage in Charleston still illegal, AG Wilson being attacked

According to the Palmetto Family Alliance (PFA) a firestorm has erupted after the South Carolina

Supreme Court stopped illegal marriages in Charleston Wednesday.

And S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson is getting blasted for defending the rule of law.

According to PFA, activist liberal probate judges in several South Carolina jurisdictions jumped the gun on Sept. 8 to allow gay marriages. 

These renegade judges cited the US Supreme Court's refusal to hear same sex marriage cases as authority to begin issuing marriage license applications to same sex couples even though the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the US District Court for SC have not ruled on the South Carolina law.

Virginia has litigated its law before the Fourth Circuit federal appeals panel, but South Carolina has not had its day in court to solicit a ruling on its unique state statute.

Because it has not been yet litigated S.C. AG Alan Wilson asked the SC Supreme Court to intervene and stop the illegal marriages in Charleston.

If Wilson caved to a non-decision decision from Washington he would break the law, according to PFA. Wilson is simply defending SC law, PFA said. But for his effort, Wilson is being viciously attacked in electronic media. Facebook, twitter, blogs. Statewide TV and newspaper websites are being overwhelmed with negative comments beating up Wilson.

South Carolina Gamecock players held a players-only meeting this week.

Led by senior and team captain quarterback Dylan Thompson players are taking the season into their own hands. It may be the best - and most mature - thing they can do at this point.

The Gamecocks' defense has been miserable, collapsing late in the fourth quarter, to lose two games. The Gamecocks would have lost a third if not for Georgia's inability to capitalize.

The theme of the closed-door meeting: “The season is only half over.” It’s not time to give up just yet."

For the players to take responsibility may work. It's obvious the SC defensive coaching staff has no answers.

Even before this year, there is evidence that Defensive Coordinator Lorenzo Ward was in over his head. Despite some of the best defensive talent in the land, the Gamecocks have, prior to 2014, struggled at times to stop offenses that were stoppable by lesser defenses.

Many Gamecock fans have resigned themselves to the fact that the 2014 will get no better, and SC may end up with a losing record.

But if players come to the conclusion that they are on their own, and not getting much help from the guys paid to develop them, it could turn an ugly rest of the season into something of hope.  

Regardless of the outcome, it cannot get much worse on defense. 

Leaders come out of the closet – Oppose government-backed Gay “marriage”

Any resistance, no matter how logical,
to the homosexual lobby, is used to attack
and bully pro-Constitution Americans.

Homosexuals want special protections that other Americans do not demand. Our leaders, including

Gov. Nikki Haley and AG Alan Wilson should FIGHT these selfish bullies. Almost 80 percent of South Carolinians voted to defend marriage as one man and one woman.

Sexual preference is NOT a civil right.

Being homosexual is not like being African-American, as the gay lobby is claiming.

African-Americans were being discriminated against on skin color, and like the great country America is, our government – or the people -stepped in to stop it. We have gone overboard in that respect.

But to allow the gay lobby to impugn the fight for racial justice, as the same as theirs, is ludicrous. African-Americans – and the white people who helped secure it -should stand up and not allow the true civil rights legacy in this country, to be so sullied.

Gays are not subject to any discrimination that can be legally controlled. None of us are.
Homosexuals can get married, and do whatever they want. 

But we have no obligation to let a political special interest group pervert our commitment to equality and change laws to fit their idiosyncratic purposes. 

Approving government-sanctioned gay marriage is redefining the Constitution for a political special interest group.

We, as a country, should NEVER make one set of laws, that exalts one group of Americans over another. Homosexuals have NO right to demand that we redefine marriage.

Marriage, for a litany of reasons, has ONE definition of one man and one woman. You cannot decide after 200-plus years, because you have a lawless ultra-leftist president and too many minions in the courts, to change law based on pop culture whims.

The gay lobby, and its tactics of intimidation, are only a political special group.

The country - or the people – have the right to define marriage any way it wants.

As it is, homosexuals already have more protection under the law than non-homosexuals because of hate-crime laws, that make offenses against gays, more egregious by law. Homosexuality, or sexual orientation, is also specifically mentioned in equal rights legislation to prevent discrimination, while there are not protections for groups outside the anointed political class.

It's time for our leaders to come out of the closet. Stand up to these oppressive demanders who want to re-write our definitions to suit themselves. 

You have to be strong to endure. This is where it should be. If this leftwing special interest group can blow a whole in the law, the peoples' will, and the Constitution, the damage could be irreversible. They need to be stopped. Now!

Online dating and murder of USC Prof. Jennifer Wilson, media focuses on domestic abuse

Democrats need to motivate single, or unhappy female voters who have soured on the party because

of the horrid performance of President Barack Obama.

For a few months, domestic abuse, and an accused “War on Women” by opponents have been the Democrats' rallying cry. They have little else than to vilify Republicans. 

This week, in Columbia, the trial of Hank Hawes began. Hawes allegedly murdered USC Professor Jennifer Wilson in her Shandon duplex in late August 2011.

The killing has spawned a thousand stories about domestic abuse, the convenient cause-de-jour for the Democrat Party.

But what is the media leaving out? 

So much of the reporting of the trial is failing to mention how Wilson and Hawes met on an online dating site.

After getting deeply involved with Hawes, Wilson supposedly found out that Hawes had a reputation for portraying himself as wealthy and sophisticated, when he was neither.

Other women who had been involved with Hawes sent up the red flag that Hawes was lying, dangerous and something of a conman.

The details of how such a brilliant, beautiful and full-of-life woman got entangled - via the Internet -with such a low-life manipulator, like Hawes, were reported initially. 

But since those first days, just after the murder, finding the real folly of Wilson is difficult. This heinous murder is ALL about domestic abuse now.

But the TRUE mistake in this sad case is the danger of relationships forged through online dating.

Was there a time in our society when things moved slower? Where a woman had some time to really get to know the character of a man, and vice-versa, before becoming so involved?

Jennifer Wilson made a HORRIBLE mistake. And she paid for it with her life. But is the media adding insult to this horror by not pointing out how dangerous it is to get into relationships based on Internet contact?

There is a GOLDEN opportunity here that could save the lives of other women. Take it slow, get to know a potential date through more conventional means. There are a plethora creeps out there hiding behind a modem. Please let's warn everybody that there is a relation between domestic violence and the weirdos and murderers surfing the web.

In the mean time, let's hope Hawes is prosecuted to the full extent of the law for this heinous and ugly crime.  

What Dr. Ben Carson said about homosexual marriage

Ben Carson is very clear about his views on homosexual marriage.
In an interview with Sean Hannity, the former Johns Hopkins surgeon said, "Marriage is between a man and a woman. No group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality, it doesn't matter what they are. They don't get to change the definition."

Carson's words sent liberals - from HuffPo to Salon - into spasms. They are still foaming at the mouth over what he said. It does not line up with their narrow-minded and politics-tainted view. They cannot believe anyone would oppose them, especially a Black American.

But did the left go too far by using leftist activist judges to force a change in the traditional American definition of marriage when the SCOTUS  overturned state laws defending real marriage?
We'll see. Carson is feared by the Democrats and the media. He'll be in Lexington Nov. 2. No major state media wants to report his visit. Liberals seem extra-scared of Carson. Remember what they tried to do to SC Justice Clearance Thomas? Can you imagine what they have in store for Carson?
It is a shame in America today that some citizens (Conservatives) are so discriminated against. And that goes double if you are a Black Conservative.
Be prepared for them to throw all they have at this man. And don't abandon him, or any Conservative, based on what the media-leftists tell you.

Is government-sanctioned homosexual marriage good for society?

This is hard to say because it will immediately get you called a “bigot,” a “hater," unsophisticated and intellectually flawed by people who regularly practice bigotry, hate and intellectual dishonesty.

But homosexual marriage is not good for society. It's not good for children. There, it's said. 

That does not mean I don't like gay people or feel they should have fewer rights than any other American?
I'm just talking about values and promotion of what is best for society.

And our government, especially in the polluted culture we currently have, has no business sponsoring anything else that harms us as a people.

On top of that, we cannot afford to add more beneficiaries to the public dole. The country is broke thanks to a free-spending, non-accountable, far-left failure of a president.

But honestly; the best situation for a child is to be raised by a father and a mother, male and female. That's just God's law.

Atheists, liberals and Democrats do not want to hear about God's law. They erroneously claim we cannot have God's law in our government, but we do. Laws governing everything from welfare, healthcare, immigration and foreign aid are based in Christian morals that guide us. And those efforts are championed by liberals, Democrats and the class in America that loathes God.

But other than divine considerations, there are other reasons not to champion redefining marriage to couples other than one man and one woman.

The homosexual lifestyle, by definition is non-conventional. Because of that, it is likely to be less fundamentally sound. Children need homes that are as stable as possible.

The claims are that homosexuals have only loving, committed and faithful relationships. But if you know homosexuals, especially men, how true does that ring to you?

Normally, if you are fed a premise, it is very wise to apply your experience to it. Does it fit with what you know? The idea of the solidly-based homosexual family type is just not that prevalent.

And less-stable homes for children are the last thing we need more of in a society already rocked by an extreme leftwing attack on traditional family values.

Movements ranging in mission from drug promotion, race-baiting and abortion to easy divorce and welfare have pummeled the family unit. And we are paying a heavy price for it.

Even if it is said that homosexuals are not best to raise children because of the gender confusion, it is better to have homosexual couples raising children than they would be if left neglected and abused. But what a low standard we are setting.

And how many gay parents really want the joy of children, and not the attention and novelty of being a part of a leftwing political movement?

How long before the “new” wears off, and these homosexual parents are wondering what they have gotten themselves into? Would that be good for a child? 

It's not with any malice or hate against homosexuals that this is said. It is more a love for children, and the hope we can turn around the dirty mess the country is in.

But letting activist judges overrule the will of the people, and redefine marriage, is just ill-advised based on what we know. I have no faith in the left of America. So much of what they do ends in failure and disaster. Government-sponsored gay marriage has catastrophe written all over it. But I doubt the left cares, as long as they can get their way, and topple another tradition that has help build us into the great nation we are. Or should that be “once were?”  

Civil rights reduced to sexual preference of political special interest group

The Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution was adopted in 1868, and addresses citizenship
rights and equal protection of laws. It was proposed in response to issues related to former slaves following the Civil War. 

But is your sexual preference a civil right, deserving of its own set of laws? Should the government base a law on what one's bedroom habits are? 

After the SCOTUS today refused to uphold laws - chosen by the people - to define marriage in the way it has been defined, homosexuality was given status of its own form of exceptional citizenship. To grant a political special interest group extra rights is not why the Fourteenth Amendment was put into the Constitution.
African-Americans should be infuriated that their dignity has been placed on a level with the bedroom habits of a political special interest group.

Will the political homosexual movement now shut up?

America. But the countries with terrorists will
not tolerate gays. Yet activist judges overrule
 voters for gays in the US. Bizarre, right? 

I'm guessing by the SCOTUS refusing to reject activist judge rulings overturning the peoples' vote in

five states, gays can now have the holy grail of leftwing politics.

Homosexuals will be knocking down the door to get a government-recognized marriage after courts changed  laws banning it. Look out SSI, you're about to get raided in a miserable economy, when the country can least afford more handouts. 

And all those churches that “married” gays are now old news. Big Brother is sanctioning you, to heck with the church. They don't give bennies. 

So now will homosexuals SHUT the heck UP about Gay marriage?

Not getting government benefits for being gay, was the Gay political movement's TOTAL PROOF that it is a trampled upon lower class, deserving of its own definition of matrimony.

You got it now.

So will you stay out of the streets. I don't care to see you defiantly running your mouths, and waving a flag based on your bedroom habits.You won. You are the strong victors. 

Your proclivities exalt you and trigger your only source of pride evidently.

And you have marriage. The battle is over.

But it's difficult to believe you are anywhere near through pushing your agenda?

From race, to due process for terrorists and hate crime laws, courts are giving Democrat voters extra privileges, with regularity.

Chances are, like most spoiled and destructive children, allowing government gay marriage will just embolden you to attack more of the traditions that have been around while the country became great enough to absorb a petulant and self-absorbed class, like you.  

Gamecock D has been BAD before, but bailed out by Clowney

Remember Jadeveon Clowney rag-dolling Georgia QB Aaron Murray, causing a fumble to put the Gamecocks up by 10 late in the game, at Georgia in 2011?

That was Clowney's freshman year. He has the amount of talent seldom seen and he was being taught well by then-Defensive Line Coach Brad Lawing.

When you think of Clowney's best, the 2012 game versus Tennessee comes to mind. It was the game in which Marcus Lattimore sustained his most-gruesome and last injury at South Carolina. 

In that game Clowney separated the ball from Vols QB Tyler Bray, to again save what would have been a loss thanks to the Gamecocks' horrible pass defense. 

 And of course, who could forget THE HIT versus Michigan, in the Outback Bowl after the 2012 season.

But what may have been missed, that now is beginning to need examination, is some commonalities in those games.

First: even after USC defensive coordinator extraordinaire Ellis Johnson left the gamecocks after the 2011 season, Lawing stayed on.

And with Lawing at SC, the shining spot on the Gamecocks' defense was the play of the D-line.

In the aforementioned South Carolina games versus Georgia, Tennessee and Michigan, the SC defense, mostly the secondary, squandered double-digit leads late, only to be saved by Clowney or the Gamecock offense.

The total ineptness of the defense has been with Carolina for a while, but it became pronounced when the last, best coach, Brad Lawing, left for Florida.

With Lawing's departure after the 2012 season, Clowney opened the season versus UNC.

Deke Adams - who was coached by USC special teams coordinator Joe Robinson at Southern Miss – without much debate was quickly tapped from ACC-program UNC, to replace Lawing.

In Clowney's first game under Adam's tutelage, the first without Lawing coaching him, Clowney looked to be playing out of place. He over-ran plays repeatedly and was most effective only in the fear that he imposed on the opponents. His performance was disappointing, after he had been so super.

Clowney was viciously attacked, after the UNC game, for being out of shape, when in reality he was trying too hard. He wore himself out compensating for being mis-positioned.

Clowney never regained the high profile reputation he had developed, and deserved, under Lawing.

But the deficiency in his coaching was overlooked because of Clowney's extraordinary talent. And the Gamecocks were still managing wins.

But as those wins turn to ugly losses in 2014, with the Gamecocks unable to get stops at critical points, it triggers the memory of how bad the USC defense has performed since Ellis Johnson left.

Brad Lawing was the last quality defensive coach at USC, and this year, the talent brought in by the former defensive coaches has run out.

It's easy to say it should have been addressed long ago. The signs have been staring us in the face since the 2012 collapses, that did not cost many games. But it's also easy to hold pat with 11 wins a year.

No one knew the wheels would come off so quickly. And now The Gamecocks, and the fans are paying the price for ignoring some very obvious flaws, that have been evident for a while. 

The D has been scary to watch for three years. Now it's excruciating.

VP Joe Biden will visit Columbia on Oct. 14 for a get-out-the-vote rally at Allen University and a state Democratic Party fundraiser,” The State newspaper is reporting.
To date, Democrat gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen is not planning on meeting with Vice President Biden, and the reasons Sheheen is hiding from Biden are becoming more clear.

News is breaking that Biden, known as a walking gaffe machine, has stepped in it again.

The AP is reporting: Biden was forced to call “Prince Mohamed bin Zayed, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and a key Emirati leader, Sunday to clarify that he did not mean to imply in his remarks last week that the Gulf ally was supporting al-Qaida fighters in Syria.

“It was the second time in two days that Biden (has) had to call a key partner in President Barack Obama's (supposed) coalition to walk back comments he made on Thursday,” the AP said “when (Biden) said that U.S. allies - including Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the UAE - had funded and armed extremist groups linked to al-Qaida.”

Earlier Sunday, an exasperated UAE requested "a formal clarification" from Biden on comments that America's allies in the Middle East sent weapons and cash to extremists fighting in Syria.

With “intelligence” like Biden's running the government, I don't think we have to wonder why the country is in the state that it is in.

No work from The State newspaper on whether Biden's request to come to South Carolina has been withdrawn.

Gamecocks D back to the incompetence of the Pre-Ellis Johnson days

In South Carolina's last game of 2007, the Gamecocks lost on a field goal to Clemson. In the winning drive, the Tigers converted on a 1 and 35. It was one pass after another. Everyone in the stadium knew that Clemson would throw the ball, mostly to All-ACC WR Aaron Kelley, but the Gamecocks were helpless to stop it.

Sound familiar?

Kentucky RB Jojo Kemp ran the ball play after play Saturday night to obliterate SC's defense in another embarrassing defeat for the Gamecocks, following a fourth-quarter defensive collapse. Ky. 45 - SC 38. 

The Gamecock defense is back to where it was seven years ago, or worse.

Also in 2007, Arkansas' Darren McFadden shredded the Gamecocks' D. No Gamecock fan could forget that spectacle. 

South Carolina's record went from 6-1 to 6-6 that year in 2007. There was no bowl game. It was a disaster and had people questioning the shelf-life of Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier. 

But after that season, things changed. Defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix got a new job at Ole Miss.

Brian VanGorder, former Georgia DC came to South Carolina for about a month, then quit.

Disgusted, Spurrier did what he said he should have done in the first place. He hired Ellis Johnson.

Ellis, from Columbia, said he was at a point in his career that he wanted to come home. 

In that 2007-08 off-season, six Gamecock assistant coaches left the program.

In 2008, Johnson's Gamecock defense was not great, but it was immediately better.

In 2011, after South Carolina's first-ever 11-win season, Johnson made a very ill-advised, and ultimately disastrous decision to take the head coaching job at Southern Mississippi. He did not win a game and was fired after one season.

At South Carolina, many of the assistants that worked for Johnson had moved on. Specifically, defensive line coach Brad Lawing took a job at Florida.

Fast-forward to 2014.

The season began with SC being routed by Texas A&M 52-28, in the first opening-season loss for Spurrier at SC. Since that ugly defensive performance, the Gamecock D has not gotten any better.

Johnson is the defensive coordinator at Auburn. The Tigers, surprising the country, played for a national Championship last year. Auburn is undefeated, and playing well in 2014.

With the obvious failures with his defensive staff, that Spurrier saw after game one this year, the head football coach said: “We've got some coaching decisions to make."

Indeed he does. Because it seems like it's 2007 all over again.  

Offense may get the blame, but D fails Gamecocks again

It was ugly. And there will likely not be any real relief until all the defensive coaches can be replaced.
Competent coaching will help, but it's left to be seen how poorly the personnel problems are. Will it take years to undo the damage done by the mistakes made in recruiting?
In the post-game, Coach Steve Spurrier alluded to another double-digit lead-loss in the fourth quarter.
The Gamecock defense blew it again, to lose to Kentucky 45-38.
A deflection and INT charged to SC QB Dylan Thompson, will likely have the critics blaming the offense. And another INT late sealed the deal. But the offense should have never been put in such desperate situations.
For the second week in a row, the SC defense was shredded. For anyone watching the game, it was obvious there was no chance the gamecock D could stop Kentucky back Jo-Jo Kemp.
Everyone knew Kemp would get the ball, but the defense was helpless.
Arm tackling, bad angles, and just being weak were characteristics of the Gamecocks on defense.
It was like the Brad Scott days, or the Lou Holtz teams at the worst.
No one knew tat the D had been propped up by talent. Now the talent is gone, and the ugly truth is exposed.

If you've been a Gamecock fan for long, you can remember when opposing teams would wait until

the crescendo of South Carolina's famed 2001 entrance, to run out onto the field, too. Stealing a little piece of the Gamecocks' glory for themselves.

Tennessee, Arkansas, Clemson and even East Carolina had no fear of the Brad Scott-level coaches that used to walk the sidelines of Williams-Brice. And there was not a reason to be frightened.

But a funny thing has happened in the Steve Spurrier era. Teams are real careful not to provoke the Gamecocks by using 2001 in an attempt to show up the home team. Winning has a way of shutting up wannabes like nothing else.

But now, after USC's defense is almost non-existent, surrendering a 13-point cushion to give Missouri an improbable win last week, Kentucky is rolling the dice it can punk South Carolina, too.

Tonight, at Kentucky, the Wildcats will wear all-chrome helmets with a blue logo, and black uniforms. It is a part of a blackout.

Teams only go to such measures when they think they have a good chance for a win. It is a gamble as SC fans can attest to when Spurrier brought his Florida Gators a a Gamecock blackout in 2002.

The strong Gator team dominated the Gamecocks on the arm of QB Rex Grossman.

Now Spurrier is being treated like fodder for a probable upset by Kentucky.

And why would anyone blame the upstart Wildcats? The gamecocks D has not been able to play a full game this season.

If SC's D does not mature faster than it has been progressing, the Kentucky win will be easy.

South Carolina cannot expect its offense to outscore every opponent, week after week.

And even if Gamecock QB Dylan Thompson and the offense lights up Kentucky, as last week proves, a double-digit lead with a little more than one-third of the fourth quarter left, is not security. The SC defense has shown it can give up lots of points, fast.

SC has its back up against the wall. Past wins, or the names of Clouwney, Quarels, Ingram or Swearinger will help them none.

It is time for the SC D, and the coaching staff, to be worthy of a tradition that was set by those before them. If the D is not prepared, Kentucky is ready to Black Them Out.

Shaq Roland OUT - Gamecocks face pivotal game vs Kentucky?

It took a years to build what Head ball Coach Steven Spurrier has built at South Carolina. And it's too

early for his rise to have peaked. There are championships awaiting, but some re-building must be done in a year that remedial coaching was not expected.

And now big-talent Shaq Roland is out for the Kentucky game: SDS is reporting: “Thought to be a breakout performer on the outside, Roland has sputtered to a 15-catch, 180-yard start through five games, disappearing at times within the Gamecocks offense. He has scored two touchdowns this season.” And: “Roland missed three games as a sophomore after serving a suspension for a violation of university policy.”

Before that: Spurrier has had a defense that let Missouri score on one drive last Saturday so quickly, it was as if no defense at all was on the field. The Tigers' second three-play TD drive could not have been any easier. On top of that, the Gamecock’s D did not show up versus Texas A&M and it all but lost the game to Georgia.

Spurrier was criticized for calling out his defense after it surrendered an effort-less TD to Vandy, late. But now we see why that so concerned him.

Over the Spurrier era at SC, Spurrier's ranked Gamecock teams have lost to Vandy and Kentucky.

For the most part, the Gamecocks had put the truly inexplicable upsets behind it. But with a defense that is horrible, and does not seem to have much of answer, will the Gamecocks move back to that level where becoming bowl-eligible is the best it can hope for?

While it seems media is hungry to blame Spurrier for all of his team's failings, a weak link, like the defsnse can become contagious, and spread apathy throughout the whole team.

While it may not directly be Spurrier's fault the D has been caught with a bare cupboard and a coaching staff struggling to find answers, he is ultimately judged on wins and losses.

If the team is unraveling, it's time to jump in and pull it back together.

If you look at Spurrier's track record at USC, it obvious he can do it. But he has to be surprised he is faced with this dilemma, at this point in his tenure.

That said, You'd have to believe he's already rolled up his sleeves, and gone to work.

If the team gets a win at Kentucky, regardless of the point spread, it's a victory. That's where the Gamecocks are right now, regardless if that is fair or not.

Is Vincent Sheheen refusing to be seen with Vice President Joe Biden?

The State newspaper proudly reports: “Vice President Joe Biden to visit Columbia to boost SC Democrats.”

But can Biden BOOST Democrats if they refuse to be seen with the gaffe-prone VP?

The State reports: “Whether Democratic gubernatorial challenger Vincent Sheheen......will appear with Biden depends on the timing of the vice president's visit.”

You see, The State explains, Sheheen has a debate in Charleston the same day.

But according to the Democrat Party fat-cats, it's imperative Biden come, even though Sheheen is not so moved.

S.C. Democratic Party chairman Jaime Harrison said: “The vice president understands the importance of honest leadership and the opportunities we have to move South Carolina forward this year.”

Biden works in the Obama Administration. From IR, to Fast and Furious to the NSA spying on U.S. citizens, the Obama Administration has a track record for dis-honesty and cover-up.

That may be why Sheheen is playing coy. Or it could be the economy produced by Obama-Biden. Sheheen has been sue to avoid any connection to his party's national policies, that have proven to be very harmful to Americans. 

But still strange!

When the VP of the United States, a member of YOUR Democrat Party, comes to your state, and it's scheduled on a day that schedules cannot be mitigated. Red Flags all around. But the media does not find it strange in the least. The State just reports what the Democrat Party tells them to report, with no obvious follow-up questions.

Anyway: “Biden will visit Columbia on Oct. 14 for a get-out-the-vote rally at Allen University and a state Democratic Party fundraiser,” The State says.

During the Allen rally, Biden will encourage voters to go to the polls for the Nov. 4 general election. Details on the rally and fundraiser are being worked out.

Democrat priorities: Ebola and a beheading, Obama busy outlawing “Redskins”

To hear G-- D--- on TV is more and
more common. Yet liberal Democrats

Ebola has been confirmed in Dallas. Parents are fearing their public school children will die from it, because hospital officials “mis-communitcated" the danger posed by the Liberian carrier of the deadly disease.

Meanwhile, President Barack Obama – who once told us not to worry about ISIS – has his CDC Czar tells us the Ebola case is under control, nothing to worry about. He said the top priority is not to stigmatize the Ebola patient who brought it to Texas.

Late last week, a Muslim convert beheaded a co-worker. No big deal, the Obama Administration has said little or nothing, of the outrageous act. 

Maj. Nadal Hassan, the Ft. Hood shooter, is still getting lodging, food and accommodations. Obama said the 13 people he killed, while on admitted Jihad, was a simple, case of workplace violence.

State-provided attorneys have even moved to block Hassan from admitting his guilt. Hassan would just as soon be killed for his actions, but government employees, backed by Obama, won't let justice move forward. 

Is Hassan ever going to be punished? Or will he be traded, by Obama, for a deserter, so he can kill more Americans? 

Of course, Obama's Justice Department is “investigating” the Ferguson Mo. Police department because an opportunity to exploit race-hate cannot be passed up.

What is another priority of the Obama FCC?

The FCC is moving to ban the word “Redskins” from the public airways.

If you listened to much TV lately, the phrase G-- D--- is now allowed. Christians consider that word blasphemous, but Obama and the liberal Democrats don't care if Christians are offended.

But very few, according to polls, other than the nutjob-level leftist cares about the word “Redskins.” But Obama is putting all his effort into to serving his wacky minority of speech police.

When you elect a liberal Democrat to the White House, this is how America looks.

Liberals have helped make this society a cesspool, almost incapable of justice in many cases. And it will not go unpunished. We are already paying with the high number of child killings, sexual crimes, soullessness, and terrible unfairness against the producers of America.

How much more of this bizarre and absurd Democrat rule can we take?  

Does Confederate flag remind Democrats of who they are, and what they've done?

The day poll results were published showing Democrat gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen being routed by Republican Gov. Nikki Haley, Sheheen moved to exploit racial politics.

Sheheen said Wednesday that he wants South Carolina to remove the Confederate flag that flies on Statehouse grounds.

To date Sheheen has struck out on data breach, DSS and fibs he's told about job production. Is he now following the lead of the Obama Administration and trying to stir up race-based hatred as a strategy?

He may as well. Nothing else seems to be working.

A little flag history!

Former Democrat Gov. Frtitz Hollings put the Stars and Bars on top of the Statehouse, and Republican David Beasley took it down.

Sheheen was joined by the Democrat candidate for lieutenant governor Bakari Sellers and several Democrat mayors Wednesday in calling for the removal of the flag.

The flag is viewed as noting more than a relic of the past by South Carolinians. For Democrats it is a political football in line with their practice of fighting harmless boogey-men, while real issues go untended - or handled in a disastrous way - by their party.

Ironically, the Civil War, from which the flag originated, was fought after a Democrat candidate lost to Abraham Lincoln, a Republican.

Maybe Sheheen and Sellers want to remove the flag because a Democrat put it there. Not to mention Democrats were slave-owners and led our state into a devastating war to protect the unproductive doomed-regardless institution of slavery.

Democrats have a lot to be ashamed of. Maybe the flag reminds them of who they are. 

Is Spurrier neglecting offense to coach up the defense?

that has resulted in one of the top win totals, of late, in major college football.

The program should be on automatic pilot with double-digit wins easily attained, right?

South Carolina just provided the NFL with the top pick in the draft with a defensive player. Shouldn't the Gamecocks just plug in the next crop of high-star recruits – taken on the recent success - and pick up where Spurrier left off last year?

But last Saturday, in a 21-20 loss to Missouri, Spurrier's defense gave up two scores in sandlot fashion.

So poor was the defense’s play, Spurrier is now confronted with the reality that he has a mid-level defensive coaching staff. That does not bode well when you're competing for a title in the toughest football conference in America.

The Gamecock defense lost a 13-point lead in the last six minutes, to grab a loss from a sure victory.

Strangely, most of the local sports media is blaming Spurrier's offense, or him, for blowing the lead.

If the score would have been 43-30 before the defense imploded, would the offense still be called out? Being woefully inept to protect an almost two TD lead, late in the fourth quarter, is a defensive problem, regardless of what is being reported.

And because of the defensive fail and despite all of his success to this point, Spurrier is going to have to figure out how to limp to the end of the season with a deficient defensive staff. Mid-season changes are rare, and firing coaches now would not help win games, most likely.

So what are Spurrier's options?

This is where Spurrier's 30-plus years of coaching experience will have to kick in. He is going to have to take time away from the offense, see what is being done wrong on D, and try to correct the problem. Spurrier may have to tweak staff assignments, so that anyone competent can fill the gaps by whoever is not doing the job.

Can Spurrier do enough to keep from falling apart? Yes. He has had to do it in the past.

Does Spurrier want to have to provide remedial assistance at this point in his tenure at SC? No. Spurrier loves coaching offense. He has a lot of fun calling ball plays. It's why he does what he does.

After struggling for so many years at South Carolina, dealing with many issues on different fronts, Spurrier probably hates to have to re-double his effort to fix a part of his team others were hired to coach.

Spurrier hates losing. So you can guess Spurrier has already resigned himself to the fact that he is going to have to step in and do someone else's job, instead of his.

Who knows, maybe he already started coaching up the D before the Missouri game. If so, that may explain why all the “experts" are now blaming the offense because the defense allowed two scores in six minutes to give the game away last week.

No matter who is the blame; drastic action is required to salvage the season. It will be intersting to see what happens.

S.C. Democrats poised to take a beating in Nov. 4 election

Gov. Nikki Haley has a 10-point lead over Democrat challenger Vincent Sheheen. She leads him 44 to 34 percent.

Winthrop University released a poll with those numbers Wednesday after a survey of 1,082 likely voters.

A correspondence from an imported Haley campaign worker, last week, stated that personnel are being moved out of South Carolina to states that are more competitive, including Louisiana.

Jobs were the most important issue in South Carolina, according to the poll.

Republicans are likely benefiting from a very unpopular Democrat and tone-deaf president, and a US Senate that is responsible for everything from Obamacare to a six-year long, miserable economy.

The two Republicans running for the U.S. Senate in South Carolina are in good shape with a little more than month to go before the Nov. 4 election.

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott has a substantial lead over Democrat Joyce Dickerson, a Richland County councilwoman, in the race to finish the last two years of the term of former US Sen. Jim DeMint.

Petition gubernatorial candidate, and wealthy trial lawyer Tom Ervin, is spending for than $1 million a percent. Ervin, a left-leaning Liberal-Tarian who calls himself an Independent Republican, has poured an estimated $4 million into his campaign and he is polling at only 3.9 percent, according to the Winthrop poll.

Another Liberal-Tarian, convicted felon Thomas Ravenel, is faring a little better than Ervin.

Ravenel, a reality TV show participant, who has served time for cocaine law violations, polled at 8 percent. Ravenel is likely getting some protest vote against US Sen. Lindsey Graham, who has angered many Conservative voters by needlessly moving to the left on some issues.

Graham leads Democrat state Sen. Brad Hutto with 46.3 percent, while Hutto has 28 percent of those surveyed.
