If Benjamin has severe failings, does it matter?

A lot of voters do not punish their elected officials for immoral or even illegal behavior. This is especially true of democrats.
Could Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin, a democrat, do just about anything he wants, and still get re-elected?
Could Benjamin, a democrat, get away with just about anything, based on his party's standards for their "leaders?"
The landmark example is President Bill Clinton. Clinton, while president, of course lied about an affair with a girl barely 20, when he was about 50. Clinton is a hero to the democrat party. He would certainly be a favorite for re-election, today, if he was eligible.
And with the nosediving popularity of President Barack Obama, after so many failures in office, Clinton may be the most-powerful democrat in the country.
Benjamin allegedly took an overnight trip on a private jet to Florida, where he and others visited a strip club.
Benjamin, who is married, and friends, allegedly wound up taking two young women from the club back to their hotel, according to testimony from Dr. Charles Smith, a former S.C. State University administrator. Smith made his claims in a federal criminal trial Wednesday.
Benjamin has not been charged with any crime, but prosecutors have brought up his name a few times in the corruption trial. Benjamin and an associate were allegedly in Florida discussing development projects for Orangeburg and Columbia.
Benjamin’s lawyer and spokesman had no immediate comment Wednesday. Does he really even need to respond? Do his voters care?
When you look at the electorate among the democrat party, it would take a lot more to topple Benjamin from power.

  1. So sad to see people commenting on facebook WIS about so what, who cares, mens be mens, etc. Amazing the low standard some women hold men to--no wonder men treat these women like garbage, they have no self-respect or dignity, why should anyone else. Or maybe there are just a lot of strippers commenting and this is ok in their world. They see nothing wrong whatsoever with a man who cheats, and have no regard for their children. Or the vows he took.

  2. Here is a typical comment, and it sums it up really: "...who knows what the parameters of his and his wife's relationship are. Only they do. That's nothing, laughable.... News flash - marriage is defined by the couple, not the world." Really? I thought marriage was defined by God? Open marriages and men cheating with hookers are just normal and none of our business is the party line in defense of Benjamin--I have a feeling the Judge doesn't see it that way. Cheating and sleazing around like a rutting brain stem is not liberation, it is enslavement, and it always always ends in pain and tears, it always ends in nothing, and destroys everything. So many people lost, just running into the darkness, can't wait to degrade themselves and cheer on others when they lay down in the gutter, just gettin they phreak on, everyone does it. Everyone does NOT frequent strip clubs and invite hookers back to the hotel room when they are married with children and on official city or SC State business. That is the actions of a man with no moral compass, and if he fails to possess self-governance, if he cannot even control his own actions and impulses, he should resign immediately, but his supporters don't care and are laughing about it. He's been wheeling and dealing lately, and we are only now discovering the bamboozle he and Hughes cooked up for us. I think the election ad for any opponent he may have next time around just wrote itself.
