Does Spurrier finally have his TD-producing offense at SC?

Do the Gamecocks finally have muscles
to flex on offense? Can SC demoralize
opponents with quick-strike, point pile-ons?
Conner Shaw was a Great QB. But he was not Spurrier's style of guy. Shaw was one of the best improvisers in college football in 2013. And he had deceptive speed. He could get past a defensive player, before a play could be made.
And he had to, because of blocking breakdowns at times.
But that is not what 2014 QB Dylan Thompson brings to the table. Thompson is a gun-slinging ace, who is finding WRs and TEs all over the field. (Jones, Roland, Byrd, Cooper, Wilds, Davis, Anderson and eventually Brent and Adams etc...)
South Carolina fans are used to long, excruciating drives, spiced with big, against-the-odds, plays for first downs.
There were plenty of three-and-outs in the past. Series where the Gamecocks could put away a team, but sputtered on O. Points were part of a grind and they were highly valuable.
But: at times on Saturday versus Georgia, Thompson and the SC offense made scoring look too easy. The style of play was reminiscent to Spurrier's high-scoring offenses at Florida.
In addition to Thompson's pass-first, to anyone open, mentality, the gamecock offensive line looked good. The pass blocking was excellent. Blockers also made holes for RBs Mike Davis and Brandon Wilds.
When the Gamecocks faced a third and long at about the two-minute mark versus the Bulldogs, Wilds picked up all but three inches of a crucial first down. Thompson did the rest, to end the game.
The defense, no doubt is a question mark, but is is improving. And there is nothing better for a maturing defense, than a high-powered offense, that can demoralize opponents with quick scores by a stable of offensive weapons.
And the powers-that-be are catching on. The Gamecocks are a 21.5-point favorite at Vandy this Saturday. The smart money would be that Spurrier is just getting used to his much-anticipated toy, aka the prolific offense.
In the past Vanderbilt has proved to pose un-expected challenges, and embarrassment, for the Gamecocks. Credit Vandy for that.

But there is no better time than now for Spurrier to push the gas pedal is his new sports car. Let's watch to see if he gives this shiny new vehicle an all-point road test come Saturday.
