According to Tuesday's ColaDaily report: “In response to recent events in Ferguson, Mo, Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin will host a town hall Tuesday to bring civic officials and local youth together to discuss how to build community in the city.”
Since scandalous accusations were made against him Benjamin has held a conference on “Climate Change,” welcomed illegal aliens and now he's obsessing over an event that took place hundreds of miles away from Columbia, that the media has all-but played out.All the while, Benjamin has yet to adequately explain being linked to claims of strippers in his hotel room, a lavish trip by a wealthy developer, pay-outs, influence-wielding and ethics violations.
Also: “Civil Rights” leaders, as Benjamin likely claims to be, are forever responding to political motivations when a racial incident flares up. The blame is usually one-sided, and never asks responsibility from the guilty, or the civil rights community.
Would it not be appropriate, and refreshing, if a “Civil Rights leader” held a town hall meeting to discuss the importance of fathers marrying the mothers of their children, and not straying to impregnate other women?
Fatherless homes is at epidemic proportions in the United States, and hurts Black children at astronomical rates. It takes a special level of heartlessness to ignore. Yet leaders in the community can find all kinds of blame among the people who have no direct influence, but there is never accountability demanded from fathers.
Would it not be a nice departure for Benjamin to show he has truly repented, come clean, and actually do something positive to heal, instead of just re-walking tired, and fruitless paths?
As it is, Benjamin is ringing all the bells that keep liberal voters blissful, but do more harm than good.
Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but is it too much to ask a Democrat to do something to actually help society, instead of pushing buttons that will only self-serve to get him re-elected by people who care about themselves, not the true welfare of their fellow citizens?
We can always hope.
