How could you not be jacked up for the game today? (City Data photo) |
It's a BIG weekend in Columbia, SC.
The
ESPN Gameday crew is set up, Kenny Chesney in on the Horseshoe and
South Carolina is coming back home after a 14-point, "disappointing" SEC road win.
If you love college football and South
Carolina, it's magical this Saturday.
Old – and some not so old- Gamecock
Gloriers are in town, including winningest QB Conner Shaw. He engineered one of the most-gritty and inspirational victories in USC
football history, versus Missouri last year.
What reason is there not to be Sky-High?
Can the Gamecocks feed off of the
excitement, and overwhelm a Tiger team set on revenge and needing to
salve its own wounds from a last-minute home loss to Indiana last
week?
If you are a gambler, you better be in
total sync with the Gamecocks' psyche before betting on them.
Otherwise you could lose a lot. South Carolina, under Head Ball Coach
Steve Spurrier is always tough to figure out, betting-line wise.
The Gamecocks are a 5.5 point favorite.
The Tigers are 3-1, and covered all lines easily before losing as a
14.5-point favorite to the Hoosiers.
All intangibles point to a big win for
Carolina. But the Gamecocks have been favorites with many advantages
before, only to slip by. So who knows?
Prognosticators seem to think Tiger QB
Maty Mauck will pick apart the Gamecock D, but the defense is getting
better, and the home crowd will be a factor.
With the atmosphere that the Gamecocks
have around them, it would be hard not to springboard off of it, and
the Gamecocks beat Missouri easily. But USC has been in this
situation before, and not covered.
The over/under is 61.5. Most predictors
are saying take the over. But Missouri may not score as much as the
“experts" predict. Under and SC could be more logical. It will be fun to see
how it turns out.
