Expect Gamecocks to beat Georgia Saturday

Spurrier IS Sir Big Spur. And Gamecock
fans have learn to depend on him in games
like Saturday's game versus Georgia.
Despite the oddsmakers' predictions, the Gamecocks should beat Georgia, Saturday.
There are few chances to play on a stage like the platform SC will be offered in this week's game.
The Gamecocks are a six-point underdog to the Bulldogs, but fans don't buy that, and they shouldn't.
The Gamecocks are a team that has looked bad in Coach Steve Spurrier's last three years, but it has been very rare that the team has under-achieved, especially at home.
And it will have to come in unprepared, again, on a very national and judgmental stage to lose to Georgia. That is not likely based on what we know about the Head Ball Coach. His teams have looked bad before, but still turned around and figured out how to win big games.
What is baffling, is that Texas A&M was able to rout the Gamecocks on Aug. 28. That loss is still hard to understand.
And even in the 52-28 A&M debacle, if SC could have mustered just three more stops, and not dropped a sure TD, it would have pulled that game out. But it didn't.
And for that failure, the football world has turned its back on the Gamecocks. The program that has been one of the winningest in the country of late, is now diving in the polls, spat upon by Vegas and considered a probable “W” by some future opponents.
The reason SC is now the scourge is because of a defense that has looked lost and of mediocre talent.
It took so much to get to where it was, and so little to topple it. But disparage the Gamecocks at your own risk.
The loss to the Aggies, as ugly as it was, is not enough to bury the Gamecocks versus Georgia.
The defensive players will have a charged and large partisan crowd on fire behind them on Saturday afternoon. That will be a huge factor.
That defense knows every eye is on it. And every successful play will bring an eruption of euphoria. That's a very addictive motivator. Gamecock ticket holders should be very anticipatory.
Aside from that, the Gamecocks know what is at stake. This is the season for the team. Lose this, and the same, old jackals are waiting to pounce. And Spurrier knows that and that will push him.
And I'd take odds on Spurrier, versus those who want his failure, any day.
That old coach lives for a stage like this. It ill be a big surprise if he does not slap back his detractors, to the delight of those who are on his side.
