Gamecock offense clicks, best still possible, if Gamecocks can do two things

First beat Auburn, then avoid the upsets

Spurrier has to feel like "We got a chance." Spurrier was
beaming win Ga. win. CBS TV photo.
The SC win over Georgia, almost wipes the slate clean for the Gamecocks. Everything is back on the table for South Carolina.
Offensively South Carolina is good. The 2014 SC offense is as good as any Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier has fielded at the school. And it can get really good. With all of the WRs contributing, and the tight-end play, scoring looks a lot easier for the team than it used to be.
QB Dylan Thompson looks more comfortable with each rep he gets.
And the O-line may finally be playing like a fine SEC unit. So the RBs, including Mike Davis, Brandon Wilds, Shon Carson and David Williams are a viable option to the pass.
But the Gamecocks have to go to Auburn Winning at Auburn will not be easy. The Tigers are good, and sound. Auburn is highly respected and highly ranked, with good coaches.
The Gamecocks D will have to keep improving. To beat Auburn, SC's current defense will have to mature more. It is making strides. The Auburn game is not until Oct. 25. That is time to grow up some.
The Tigers actually have SC's former defensive coordinator, Ellis Johnson.
Hopefully SC's current DC Lorenzo Ward knows enough about Johnson to help prepare the Gamecocks for Auburn's D.
But one can also contend that it will not be out of the question for SC to beat Auburn. “We got a chance,” is what Spurrier is fond of saying. And the Gamecocks “got a chance” versus Auburn. But SC must be more focused, especially on D.
Auburn got a lot of breaks in 2013. Will luck hold out?
Upsets
In the past the Gamecocks have been upset by Kentucky, Vandy and last year Tennessee. Those teams come to Columbia this year.
Florida is on the road, but it will be surprising if Florida is as much of a test as most consider it to be.
Gator Head Coach Will Muschamp is probably not the answer in Gainsville.
Bottom line: South Carolina beat Georgia. The fact that the Gamecocks have something to play for again, should renew the excitement of fans.
