University political scientists to discuss SC governor’s race

Dr. Scott Huffmon, of
Winthrop University is
often The State newspaper's
go-to poll guy for in-state
political races.
Five university-based  political scientists from all over South Carolina have scheduled a discussion of the gubernatorial race between Republican Gov. Nikki Haley and Democrat state Sen. Vincent Sheheen.
Scott Buchanan of The Citadel, Scott Huffmon of Winthrop University, Todd Shaw of the University of South Carolina, Alissa Warters of Francis Marion University and David Woodard of Clemson University are on the card.
This two-hour discussion is set for Thursday and it's free and open to the public. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. (Aug. 21)  in the campus room of the Capstone House, 898 Barnwell St. on the USC campus.
Charles Bierbauer, formerly of CNN and dean of USC’s College of Mass Communication and Information Studies, will moderate. USC political scientist, and Don Fowler organized the event. Fowler is a powerful Democrat operative and former head of the SC Democrat Party.
Considering the confluence of academia and establishment media, it will be interesting to see if this is more of a sincere discussion or a session to plot the best strategy for the Democrat to gain the Governor's Mansion.
Hint: The name of wealthy, self-financed petition candidate Tom Ervin could be prominent.
