Independent fails to qualify to run against Tim Scott for US Senate

Republican Tim Scott is in good
shape for November. His influence
will  increase immensely if the GOP
takes back the Senate.
The GOP's road to take back the US Senate became a little easier Wednesday.
U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) will not face a challenge from independent candidate Brandon Armstrong in November.
Most "Independents" have mostly only a chance to spoil races, and elect Democrats. Scott will not have to deal with that distraction.
According to the Website GOPWrite, Armstrong, a Charleston-area businesswoman, submitted more than 12,000 signatures to the SC Election Commission. The Commission was unable to verify that at least 10,000 of the signatures belonged to registered voters.
Two statewide petition candidates, Tom Ervin and Thomas Ravenel, were able to get enough signatures to qualify. Both are wealthy with the resources to fund their own campaigns. Ervin, a trail lawyer, is running for governor and Ravenel, a convicted felon, is in the race opposing U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham. Democrat Brad Hutto, a state senator, is the other candidate in that race.
The highly popular and conservative Scott will face Democrat Joyce Dickerson in November.
"Dickerson has run a relatively silent campaign and has no name recognition to speak of in the Palmetto State," said GOP Write.
