Petition candidate Tom Ervin - commercial sounds kind of creepy

Is Ervin in love with himself?
If you have watched political races for a while, you can tell a lot about a candidate's perception of himself from a commercial.
In gubernatorial petition candidate Tom Ervin's latest spot he reiterates the idea that he thinks he looks good, and that's going to hypnotize you to vote for him. Erving's commercial has a couple of way too-close-ups that show too much of his face.
Ervin is a trail lawyer, and while he is telling you what he will do, he half smiles, in a way that manifests as creepy.
It's the look of a man who thinks he can use his smile to take anything he wants from you.
The personal persuasion method may have served him well, locally, for years. But for him to believe he can effectively roll out his close-up face, with his whispery voice-over, for everybody in the state, is immature.
It is common for a new candidate, pleased with his looks, to overuse them in a political campaign.
Aside from that, Ervin's message of eliminating the state's income tax and raising the minimum wage may be even more immature than getting too personal, too fast.
He'll have to depose some powerful legislators to eliminate the income tax, because it's already been attempted by elected people with a more convincing mug- and tone- than his.
Suggesting that he can, or should, do anything about the minimum wage rate is ignorance.
Of course, Ervin, who presents like a Democrat, really is just trying to pick off enough Haley voters to elect Vincent Sheheen. And maybe he polled issues to see what the middle-ground wants. But when you consider the less-educated and less-ambitious tend to vote D, Ervin could be taking Sheheen's voters.
