Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott taking knocks

In the last week of so, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott's department lost a $1.6 million lawsuit against him and one of his deputies was fired after being at fault in a traffic accident.
Lott, a Democrat, was sued after one of his deputies was accused of harassing a woman involved in an inheritance case and another  deputy was fired after running a red light and causing a wreck. He had been found at fault in three driving incidents prior to that crash.
What's even more curious about the $1.6 million verdict against Lott, on July 25, he said he stands behind the actions of his deputy.
Was that just rhetoric for the appeal of the verdict? Or does he support the very strange behavior of the deputy, who was eventually rebuked by the courts?
Even more eye-opening, the attorney who won the verdict said he fears retaliation from the sheriff's department against him, his client and the staff of his law firm.
In a bit of a public relations move, a report was released in the last few days with a claim that robberies in Richland County are down. There was no data released related to the number of murders and other violent crime rates in Richland County. But as an observer, there seems to be a lot of that in the county these days.
Regardless of negative news from the sheriff's department, don't expect anything to changes.
Richland County had a seriously bungled election and it passed - or at least the vote count claimed it passed -  a one-cent on the dollar tax increase. The tax passed two years ago, and netted $58 million in year one.
A full staff is getting paid to plan projects to spend the money, but no project construction has begun.
Richland County officials say it's coming, one of these days. Just give them some more time
